So you need to replace your hardwood floors

If you are a homeowner that take pride in making your house a home, then often that pride is reflected first in the condition of your floors. However, no matter how vigilante a homeowner you are, your floors overtime will begin to show their age.

 

How do you then know when it is time to replace them? Given the versatility of hardwood, often times the solution is to simply refinish them but there are time when you need to rip them up and throw them away.

 

Small mark, scratches, dent or stains can always be fixed by sanding and refinishing your floors but there are situations where a complete redo are in order.

 

The dreaded water damage. If enough water has found its way onto your floor and they have buckled and warped then all the sanding and refinishing in the world are not going to save your precious hardwoods.

 

If you don’t take care of your floors properly and they are decade old signs of rot and can be dangerous. You will know old decaying floors by their increasing softness and bounciness. Replacement is in order if your floors meet this criteria.

 

Sometimes if your floors have been through several refinishings then you eventually reach a point where the floors can’t possibly be refinished again. Then it is time to replace.

 

Refinishing is a big job. So before you strip and refinish those floors, make sure they are the ones you want for the next 20 years. Sometimes replacing the floors is a better option as you get to pick brand new floors with a new design to match the decade you are living in.
